 Nicotine Replacement Therapy or NRT

On the surface, this is supposed to be a very good method as the individual wishing to stop smoking simply replaces the nicotine he/she is being deprived of, by virtue of quitting. So in effect, instead of getting the “nicotine fix” through cigarette smoke, you get it from patches or gums. These patches and gums are available for purchase over the counter or online.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy is also available from inhalers and sprays but these methods of delivery of nicotine into your body requires a doctor’s prescription, so are not available over the counter.

Nicotine replacement therapy as a method works over a period of weeks to months as you gradually taper the dose of the nicotine until you wean yourself off it altogether. This is an effective stop smoking method that is arguably the most popular the world over.

Acupuncture as a stop smoking method relies on how energy flows in the body. Energy is by nature supposed to flow freely all around the body. This free flow of energy is further enhanced by placing needles and small seeds at specific points in the body.

By promoting and facilitating this free flow of energy around the body, the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal are blocked making the quitting process relatively easy.

If this energy flow is facilitated by use of seeds instead of needles, it is then referred to as acupressure. Acupuncture and acupressure are two stop smoking methods that seem to be fairly popular in the far east and has been very successful in people needing help to quit smoking opium.

Aversion therapy is one of the stop smoking methods that gets a lot of creative juices flowing. Everyone you talk to who has quit smoking with aversion therapy has a different spin on it. The whole idea behind this method is to employ any technique that will make you find smoking as disgusting as possible such that you never want to smoke a cigarette ever again.

Some people have chewed cigarettes when they have the urge to smoke instead of actually lighting up.

Some have put old cigarette butts in a jar, shut it and would open the jar to sniff it when the urge creeps up on them. Apparently, it smells aweful and will put you right off.

Use of tight rubberbands on wrist and snapping it against your wrist to suppress the urge apparently works for some individuals.

Smoking a mouthful of cigarettes is supposed to produce a disgusting taste in the mouth, bad enough for you to hate ever touching a cigarette ever again.

Now you see what I mean by being creative with aversion techniques. Just let your imagination run  wild, just so long as it is safe.
